first of all,
thanks for the encouragement and snippets of humor. it is very
welcome and appreciated. and another thanks for the input on my
project. when i cam in form physical therapy i looked at my emails
and started surfing and researching some more and came out of the web
with a better idea of what i am going to narrow down, trim, and
expand.
don and geoff, thanks for your input on the lighting topic. i think i
am going to do as you say and go LED with as much as i can since it
seems to be cheaper than stock replacement setups and will save on
wattage and leave a bit more draw for the other electronics. and i
like your PIAA set as well. i will do something similiar, i like the
mounting possibilities PIAA gives with their little ATV brackets.
Bogdan, thanks for your info on the jet kit. it wasnt until read into
the topic a little more i realixed they are pretty finicky carbs. as
far as the FMF pipe goes, i had one on my last setup and i loved it.
the pipes were alot cooler after long rides and didnt tend to cook
anything within a few inches and the sound was something i had grown
fond of when passing going uphill. i heard the same about a few
stator upgrades but the one i am sold on is the unit from electrix.
it may cost a little more but they are engineered very well and
considering the load i tend to put on my electrical system it is
something i need to do. i will have random units (sat phone, laptop,
cell, camera) charging in the pizza box when running down the road as
well as normal units (gps, mp3, dash, lights etc.) running at the
same time.
jim, thanks for finding the "sharkfin", it seems big cee has gone off
to wonderland and i was left out to dry. This little device may seem
mundane and excessive unless you do alot of off road travel. the
price comparison of the alternative is pretty staggering considering
the place you are at when you need parts and transportation.
revmaaatin, thanks for your service as well brother. and yes,
handguards and mirrors and on the list. i am going to go with the
acerbis guards and the low pro enduro mirrors. they are alot smaller
and shorter but they arent in the way when riding through overgrown
fire roads or tight traffic. one thing i have learned in the past is
to never have your luggage wider than your handlebars or mirrors.
same concept as a cats whiskers. i had to cut down a tree in the
sierra nevadas outside lake tahoe because i worked my self into a
chineese finger/monkey trap of tight trees and wide luggage. (side
note, those pocket/cable chain saws are worth thier weight in gold.)
jim link, yes, i know. after all that i went through the things i
seem to be bitter over the most is the fact i am going to miss my
bikes more than her. right now i am currently in fort lewis
washington at madigan army hospital, i am finishing surgeries and
getting my physical therapy wrapped up. i am going to buy a mountain
bike this next week so i can start riding around here locally and get
back into some sort of exercise. i bought a chevy tahoe a few weeks
ago when they let me out of the hospital for a couple days so i can
feel for the whole gas milage pinch right now. since it rains so much
here it is kinda hard to do much of anything when they say, "dont get
your bandages wet". i am sure i will spend quite a while traveling
since i met alot of cool poeple around the world in the last few
years. so right now and for the next couple years i can say home is
where i am at.
criswell, i am goign to get the new bike, but as far as a new
girl?.................i am going to pass on the drama for a little
while and spend my money on some other blond (hefewiezen) brunette
(black butte porter) and possibly a red head (tomato brew).
not only that i dont think i am going to slow down or stop long
enough to even think about the fems. i am fine with good tunes in the
helmet and bees down my collar.
by the way, i have a handfull of photos of vehicles that exloded from
underneath me and other intersting photos from iraq if you all would
like to see. i am going to slap together a little album on yahoo if
intersted. while i was over there i bought a "JAWA" 2-stroke enduro
type 200cc (new) for 400 bucks from a local just north of baghdad. o
rode it around our base. i cuaght alot of slack since it was the only
fun looking thing in the whole country. before i was loaded onto the
medevac blackhawk my battalion commander stuffed a note and one grand
into my pocket saying "you not gonna need the bike anymore its mine,
email me when you are concious for the lock combo." needless to say i
had alot of messages for the 3 weeks i was in the coma.
thanks again
scouts out,
brett
