felt like it was missing a bit - question

OK, I have been off of my bike for about 6 months due to the fact
that I fell asleep doing 70 at 3am in the morning with throttle lock
on and crashed and shattered both bones in left ankle. Well, I have
been back up and running for about 2 1/2 weeks now commuting every
day. The bike feels pretty good but still a bit noisy and loose -
haven't got all the kinks worked out of it yet.
So, today I am riding back from lunch and it feels like it is
starting to run out of gas - missing a bit. I am doing 65 to 70 on
the freeway and I switch it to reserve but don't think that is it
because I only have about 160 miles since last fill up. Switching
to reserve doesn't seem to make any difference. My bike is an '05
with 12,300 miles on it. I have adjusted the valves twice - last
time at 9,052 miles.
The temp is about 95 degrees and 28% humidity. It seems like I
experienced this issue last summer in the Dallas heat. Vapor lock?
Some issue with fuel?
Do you think I should check my plug? I haven't looked at it since I
bought it.
What else should I check or try?
I don't notice any issues / problems at lower side street speeds.
thanks in advance for your collective wisdom.

surging,
lean condition. caused by the stock jetting, pilot idle.
or stopped up carb breather hose, or gas tank venting or even at that
age of bike a bad petcock diaghram and or vac. hose from carb to
petcock. sometimes a worn chain is confused with surging.
and even a hole in the carb diaghram can feel funny. Mostley when you
twist on the throttle wide open and it bogs.

My bars are full of No. 6 shot with nothing to hold it in except for
a bit of electrical tape over the bar end before I put on the hand
guards, now the bar inserts keep the lead in check.
