Looking at leaving Poulsbo at about 9am, riding the
Northern Peninsula, maybe to the coast. I'd do the
mountains but there is a ton of fresh snow over 1000
feet.

I noticed my KLR has "blue" coolant. Hmmm. This is the regualr stuff
you get at the auto parts store right? Since the bike is going on 3
years I was wondering if you thought I should change it. I do the oil
every spring before I start the bike up and I guess I should change
the coolant too. Anyone have a preference on when to do this? Every so
many years or so many miles?
Does anyone live in the Chicago area and want to do the doohickey for me?
I love this bike!

It's probably the phosphate-free/silicate-free stuff like HondaCool. I
use plain old fashioned green stuff and change it every year, but once
my current supply of green runs out I'll be switching all my vehicles
to Zerex G-05 and reducing the coolant changes to every other year.
*Always use distilled water!*

i just got around changing my coolant after 8k and it was blue
also , probably the safer stuff versus green goop. i put in
some "engine ice" and noticed a considerable decrease in my overall
temp and and when the bike gets really hot riding in town or on the
trail , it cools down faster when hitting the highways or open
roads. good stuff and its non-toxic.
