I've been expecting someone in the Boise area to mention Carls cycles. A lot of KLR riders in and around Boise. When I bought mine, It came with several great stories from the salesman and other riders that were visiting the shop. I didn't get a chance to really get to know them, but the few times I bought accessories, or had my bike serviced, they were great. Here is a pick of a tail bag designed by Carl and made in Boise. I think its probably the most functional piece I own. Dennis Angus A-11

List, Purchased my A13 totally stock and want to add some storage space. Nothing big for trips but big enough for a leather jacket and some spare change. Would like a tail bag but wonder how much it interferes with throwing a leg over while getting on and off. As far as tank bags go I get the impression the Kawi bag is not that well made? Are there others that listers recommend? Thanks, Joe

Hey, Joe. I bought a Wolfman Explorer Tank bag for my Y2K KLR and love it. It is shaped to fit the slope of the KLR's tank, has tons of room and comes with two removable side pockets. There is also a pocket on the back of the bag that I use for my CD player, and a small sleeve at the front of the bag for one of those flex flashlight (use as a maplight at night). The one thing that it does NOT come with is a rain cover, but one is available. The map holder on the bag removes (velcro) and can then be fastened to the rain cover. Check it out at: http://www.wolfmanluggage.com/ For a tail bag, I bought a black cordura duffle bag from Mountain Equipment Co-Op here in Canada. It was cheaper than a tail bag and holds more than most of them. Wolfman also makes tailbags, so check them out as well. Cheers, D. GBG eh14

With the recent break in high desert winter, I got the bike out last week for the first off road in a while. Wound up losing the tupperware with fixit items through the destructed zippers on my Kawi tail bag. Am considering Tim's side racks with clip on Ortleibs which I'll definitely need for summer. Have used the Kawi tail bag until the side panels have worn through. Is the Wolfman the best/ most durable tail bag, and is anyone using the millenium fabric? Or as an option would racks and side bags give good reason to skip the tail bag for now? Riding mostly to work, but on more extended rural country rides when weather permits. TIA Todd A9

I have the clip on Ortleibs and side racks. I think it's a great design. Simple, holds a lot of gear, and the bike can go from a loaded tourer to lethal dirt weapon :-) in seconds. I use it with the Wolfman tank bag and couldn't imagine needing more storage for day to day riding or short tours. Leon Droby A14 - "Gherkin"

Todd: I find the Ortleibs are great for long trips (they help keep weight low on the bike), but are a pain to put on or take off the bike on a frequent basis IMO (I'm lazy). For a quick on and off luggage solution, I use a Top of The Line Rack, which I purchased from Fred, and a few bungee cords. This set up will accommodate a duffel bag and variety of other items you may want to carry on your commute, that may not fit securely on the stock luggage rack. The use of a SealLine zip duffel or an Aerostich Dry Bag Duffel Bag makes a quick on/off waterproof luggage solution. I love the Wolfman tank bag, but thought the tail bag was a little too small for my needs and was not waterproof (I loose rain covers :> ) http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com http://www.cascadedesigns.com/sealline/packs_and_duffels.html http://www.aerostich.com/riderwearhouse.store John Am considering Tim's side racks with clip on Ortleibs Is the Wolfman the best/ most durable tail bag, and is anyone using the millenium fabric? Todd: My previous post was refering to the standard Ortleibs. Sorry for any confusion. _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/

Hello to the group. I own 2 KLR and decided to start getting ready to do the famous DOOHICKEY upgrade. I live in Toronto, Canada and would like to borrow or rent the 2 required special tools if someone has them available.
