replacing seal where shifter exits engine???

First let me apologize for starting that oil thread--I
got my answer about gasoline vs diesel oils in the
first couple responses, I didn't mean to start a horse
beating party.
Now:
My a17 seems to be leaking oil from the seal where the
rod the shifter mounts to enters the engine. It's
getting worse quick and I need to fix it. I seem to
remember hearing that a couple of sheet metal screws
driven into the seal at 9 and 3 o'clock can be used to
pull it from the case (after the shift lever is
removed of course). Can anyone confirm this or offer
any advice? Has anyone replaced this seal? The
workshop manual only gives advice for if you have the
whole engine apart ("pry out the old seal"). I don't
have a dentist pick or any of that fancy stuff, but if
I *have to*, I'll go buy one.
Second--and I'm sorry to ask such a helpless
question--would any of you knowledgable folks mind
bopping over to buykawasaki and confirming that the
seal is part number "92050-082 seal oil"

Luke, I think you'll find the seal listed on the "engine cover" page
ref # 92049A, part # 92049-1271, seal oil TB12205.5

Luke,
Looks correct to me. My good monitor is at work, and the old eyes just
ain't what they UTB. I'm pretty sure you're correctomundo. You might
want to double check to be sure the chain lube isn't making you think
oil is coming from there. Those seals are usually good for quite a while.

I'm definitely going to wash the whole thing spic and
span before I dive in... kerosene and a toothbrush is
my usual MO, though--dish soap sounds like too much
work. I'm pretty sure it's the shift seal, as the
amount of oil coming out has washed a clear path on my
otherwise filthy engine (filthy from various crap,
mostly chain lube drizzling down from the cover and
getting covered in powdery jersey sand). But I'll be
sure before I pull it out.
