Rev,
I really like your suggestion on changing the gas. I've been changing
the gas since I bought it. Seems to be the most important part of owning
the KLR.

Before you leave: add,
Maybe that the oil cap is snugged on.
That the oil plug does not have any oil leaking around it.
In a post, less than a month ago, someone said the dealer should be
able to provide you with a copy of the check list that the tec who
set up the bike, used to set up the bike. It would be a good place
to recheck, after you get home.
Earlier, I added the cotter key to axle nut because a friend actually
had a front axle nut come off on the way home (years ago on a 250
Suzuki) and it always stuck with me. The tec did not install the
cotter key nor did he tighten the nut.
and After you get home,
Someone recently suggested that you take the manual and go over most
of the fittings, nuts, and see that they are at least at the right
torque settings. I wouldn't worry about the 8mm bolts that hold the
engine cases on the block, but the engine mounts, triple trees,
handlebars, axle nuts and such.
It's not that you don't trust the tec; it's your bike, and your hide
that depends on all the fasteners doing their job.
and change the gas!
