I know I will add more wood to the fire here, but since I got my A-19 back in June last year and after changing the oil 4 times during the break in period,( using Kawa. oil ) I started reading about the wear protection additives in diesel, I decided to try Ford Motorcraft diesel oil, works great for me,the only drawback is, a couple of weeks ago 4:30am, going to work ( sorry, some of us HAVE to do that ) 14 degrees on the mercury, the bike did not seem to like pumping that mayo . Yep some of us have to get to work early to turn things on for the guys who make things......... Even in N. WalMart's full synthetic is cheaper, but it only comes in 10W-30. ed A17

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok . . . considering cold weather startup that's all that much more reason to go with a "synthetic" Diesel rated oil with Viscosity numbers 5w-40 such as Shell's Rotella Synthetic. Easier starting, faster oil flow, less wear etc. Back when I ran Mobil's Delvac 1_ 5w-40 I always periodically started the cycle up and ran it - rode it when possible in blow freezing temp to give the motor some exercise in the dead of winter. It always started without protest on full choke. This last winter I had some vintage "Advanced Formula" Synthetic Mobil 1 15w-50 in the crankcase. It did start but was noticeably more sluggish in turning over and running when stone cold. I mentioned on a earlier Post that Mobil's SUV Synthetic formula was 5w-40 . . well they must of changed it. I was at Wal-Mart today and I noticed that is been replaced by a 5w-30 version. Mobil just came out with a 5w-40 Turbo diesel oil. Not sure what has changed? The Shell Rotella Synthetic 5w-40 Diesel Oil is a bargain at less than $15 a gallon at many stores - Delvac 1 is really spendy probably close to twice that cast per gallon. As soon as my oil stockpile is depleted I will be moving al my 4 strokes to Rotella 5w-40 Syn not because it's the best or coolest product on the market but because it represents a sweet spot between performance and cost. If you know of a better 5w-40 synthetic oil or any oil in this viscosity range that out performs Rotella Syn for less please let me know. Glen A13

Twice now I've drained out Rotella 5w-40 with less than 1,000 miles. This last time I actually pulled the side cover to make sure nothing was broken. With all the racket going on I thought for sure the balancer spring was broken. But it wasn't. I refilled with Rotella 15w-40 and things are much quieter. Matt

Hi Matt, I have given your problem much deep thought and I was thinking, I bet I know why it ran quieter, really a simple matter of math...there are 10 more squir-Wirls in 15w-40 than there is in 5w-40. Just a little precaution on runnin gdiesel oil in an automobile. I read on bobistheoilguy.com that the diesel oils have additives that may not be friendly with the catalytic convertor or sensors on cars so equipped. You may want to check this out before switching you cages.

Mine is just plain noisy all the time. I really didni't notice any difference between syn and dino. I like the startup advantage of the syn (5w) so will probably stick with it. A little noise doesn' t bother me.

diesel oils are made for high compression engines. thats what makes it a great oil in our lugs. i have been running the rotella 15/40 in my cummins diesel and the klr for 3 years now with no problems at all in cold or hot weather. theres a link floating around somewhere that takes you to the rotella site and describes why its a good choice to use in a m/cycle. maybe go to shells site or type in rotella in your search bar to find it. the only down side to the rotella is that it has a wierd odor for the 1st few hundred miles or so. thats why it gets the nickname ro-smella. good luck, scott --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Mike Peplinski" wrote:
