Kawasaki started changing the thickness of there cylinder liner in 1996
for the KLR650s. I have a 1996 and am wondering whether I have the
newer cylinder liner or the older one. Dose anyone have a speck
thickness on the newer liner or know the Engine serial numbers when the
newer liners were used?

All 1996 engines should have the thicker liner based on the fact the parts listing only has one part number which is the same all the way to 2006. The 1995 and earlier list a different part number.
