doohickey replacement-- required???

I've recently ordered a complete doohickey replacement kit for my '05
with 3500 miles on it. Before I start pulling things apart, I was
wondering what the general opinion was on the necessity of replacing
the OEM parts for this? And also what the difficulty level was in
performing the work. I ordered the kit after reading about the high
failure rate on this, but would hate to take something that's not
broken and brake it....
