Might be better to blame it on your helmet, which is either not aerodynamic, or overly heavy, or both. I remember that when I got my Arai, I was amazed -- I could actually turn my head with the stock windshield without the wind trying to whip my head off! Yeppers, those Arai boys had even taken into account turning your head to look over your shoulder when they designed the aerodynamics of that hat! I run the stock windshield in the summer, even for long trips. About the only thing the stock windshield isn't good for is high speed slab work where the wind is very tiring, but you don't want to do that on a KLR anyhow if you can avoid it.

That's about how tall I am. For road riding, I've tried a Clearview +11 and a Slipstreamer CF-30. I would rate both as "barely adequate". I ended up looking over both. The Clearview provides a bit more weather protection and is more stable in crosswinds. The Slipstreamer provides cleaner air flow (the Clearview buffets badly). If you adjust the Slipstreamer more upright so that you can lean forward in the twisties, it starts to buffet more, though never as much as the Clearview since even then it's closer to your head than the Clearview (you do end up looking through the Slipstreamer in this case, but it is optically clean, so that's not too bad). If you adjust it leaning back further, you can't lean forward without hitting your helmet on the top of the shield, but the airflow turns into a nice whistle as it hits your helmet and goes over. But the Slipstreamer's mounting hardware is, let us say, cheap, it's always vibrating loose and losing parts (luckily, you can buy parts kits to replace the parts that fall off, but it's definitely the Harley Davidson of windshields!). And it's not metric either -- to adjust it you'll need to carry some different tools with you that don't fit anything else on the bike (even worse for me, because I replaced the thumbscrews that were always vibrating loose with hex-head screws, which, alas, are 5/16"). Despite that, I sold the Clearview -- the CF-30 is "good enough", at least for now, and the adjustability and cleaner air flow and ease of removing it (two screws, pull it off, and voila) won out. Just be aware that it's a horrible kludge and rather difficult to install and adjust compared to the Clearview, which is pretty much plug and play. I'm still waiting for the "perfect" windshield for the KLR... until then, any windshield makes life easier in the winter or in bad weather compared to no windshield. -E

====I am still using a Memphis Shade's Demon on my FZ1 through its 5th year and on my KLR through its 1st year, very successfully. I ride in all conditions except wet/salty roads or severe mud/off-road. MS shields go on/off in short order, should one desire. I was not certain the Demon would hold up to the more intense 'hammering' of the KLR, but so far no issues after 3k miles through its first season. I am also not sure how brittle/susceptible it will become in sub freezing conditions on the KLR, but has held up on the FZ in cold weather. In normal riding I can 'sight-see' behind the Demon. Perhaps there are equal or better options, but the Demon, with the stock handguards offers good/great bad weather and wind protection for all round riding on the KLR, IMO.
