sylvania silverstar sealed beam substitution for klr headlamp assem

Hey ya guys. I dont' post on this list much anymore, after having
posted 100s of times before focusing on other sites.
A few things I have done are of interest to those modifying their
KLRs in ways that are not easy to do.
One of them is dealing with the headlight pattern provided by the
lens and reflector of the stock headlamp. I removed it and built a
fiberglass shell with twisted SS wire braid immersed in the mold and
encasing the stock headlamp (sectioned) shell mount.
I then installed the sealed beam Sylvania Silverstar lamp, which was
used as a mold component (with lightly lubed plastic wrap to allow
for the release after the fiberglass set-up).
The light pattern is full, perimeters are filled, and no hot
spots/dead spots in either the low or high beam patterns exist.
If you KNOW how to work with fiberglass and intregating metal into
fiberglass, this mode is well worth the labor investment and tweaking
that is needed (some bending and installation of material to prevent
back-lighting the cowling).
