dealers that discount klrs?

Post by rkeith1084 » Tue Nov 01, 2005 4:46 pm

Well, yesterday I was talking to the sales guy at my local Kawasaki dealer, and I asked about a discount for a KLR 650. He laughed! Seems they have 6 people in line for the next KLR that comes in, and seems like that's about normal. (Florida!) Naturally, NO discounts on KLRs there... ever! I'm wondering if it's the same further to the north, for example, and if Feb or Mar is a good time to make a great deal. Any ideas? Maybe I'd be better off getting a reasonably new one off of ebay? The off season seems to be offset here by the fact that nobody is ordering them until march, because they dont want them sitting around. One place laughed when I asked him what his price was - not even really asking for a discount, just how much - and he didn't, and won't get my business (Charlotte). I didn't get but a couple hundred bucks off, but I was able to negotiate about halfway on the various tack on charges. I also knew there weren't but 4 or 5 more bikes in showrooms in the state at the time, and this guy was local so I went with him.

I was in my dealership a couple weeks ago. This is a little mom'n'pop-type operation in Placerville, California that does a relatively high volume of business. He said KLR's were going out- the-door for $6,200; no negotiating. He only had one on the floor, and it had a "sold" sign. These things have gotten too dammed popular! By the posts you guys are sending, it would appear that my friend and i bought ours at the right time. In January the dealer we went to had three 2003's still in stock. We got what we thought was a pretty good deal. Not great just pretty good. We got them for $4,199 + tax and license. I think it came out to just under $4,700 out the door. I think I will take a ride up there in the near future and see if the KLR is under the same restrictions you guys are finding. Maybe we got a better deal than what we thought. I just bought a 05 last month for $4,900 OTD. I am in Northern Sandiego county! I guess it also depends when where you live! If you're the only dealer around town that sells the KLR and there isn't another dealer around for miles, you should expect to pay a little more.. Paulo --- Rick McCauley wrote:

I've found the same thing in New Mexico. Albuquerque is wanting $6100 and Santa Fe wants $5800, these are out the door costs. I called a few shops in southern New Mexico and none had any in stock. One place told me that won't have any until March. Unbelievable! Found a Kawasaki dealership in Irving, TX sells their's otd for $4700. I'm contemplating making a road trip. DougW

Yes, I've gotten, also, about a dozen replies offlist (THANKS!!) and most, but not all, have been similar reports. I'm still not sure whether to buy new or used, but I'm finally sure about the KLR. I previewed the valve adjustment / tire change video, which arrived yesterday, last night. My Clymer manual is in at the bookstore. I'll have a chance to visit a dealer or two in the Miami area next week to see if they are the same as the dealer here. Then, in February or March, I'll have decided on new vs. used and buy accordingly. Was your dealer anywhere remotely close to Florida?? Keith
