SNIP Hi Dave, Welcome to the KLR empire. (smile) but, A KLR as a cure for blurred peripheral vision? I suspect you will quickly find out how fast blurred peripheral vision returns while on the trail or sweepers, which you will be able to do both. Two things to note; Remember: 1) look where you want to go! (not look at what you want to miss) 2) do not use a to fast of a ramp up speed, ie, try not to go flat out, wide open, right away. Learn your KLR's capabilities slowly and smoothly. Find a tec day in your area and be surprised at the generosity and knowledge base of your new friends. You will quickly be doing things that will make sport bike riders trying to keep up with you wet their pants or scratch their heads. I talked to a guy that knows the dealer where I bought my '99. He has 2 stores and he is completely sold out for his 2006's. This is in the Dallas area. We are creating a cult bike and a movement. Look out Harley. Criswell

I called around, and found basically maybe 5 bikes for sale in NC at the time I was trying to buy. One dealer I called literally laughed at me on the phone when I asked the price (I didn't even suggest anything, just asked his price.) I bought it at the local dealer, and they wouldn't budge much, but I was able to get a few of the piddly tack ons negotiated down. Most places without the bike told me they were getting ready to order (translation, I'll string you along and try to get one here so I can take your money, but it may be a few months), they're coming in in the next few weeks, and one place said outright he couldn't get anything until march. But dual-sport is still a small market segment, and sales are down - most people dont even know what it is. My theory is that they were tweaking their production numbers around and got caught with their pants down at an upswing in the market cycle. I know what got me interested in the bike at first was the reports of the diesel - If we're talking high hundreds or low thousands in the US at a time - it would be pretty easy for a news report, slashdot, or other phenomenon to make a significant blip in demand. Today marks 2 weeks and I got 650 mi on mine (which I guess would be an A19 if I read that right), and it is indeed more fun than a barrel of monkeys. (Nasty little creatures actually)

Revmaaatin could not have said it more perfectly. You will never meet a more generous and great set of people. I mentioned I was coming down to San Marcos to paint my mom and dads house, and I had an email in my inbox from George (thanks again George!!) for use of a big ladder if I needed it. Of course George and I have never met, but thats the way these guys operate. Eagle Mike, I will try again to stop by to shake your hand again. I don't head back to Idaho until Saturday. Same thing happened to me on the KLR Judy. Added a little distilled water, a little charging and two weeks later the battery monitor would drop to a yellow light from green in the length of time it took to turn the ignition on and reach for the start button. Fortunately I didn't have to push it at 2 A.M. and got a new Yuasa M/F the next morning. BTW have a better trip to Memphis lol.
