help: can't find neutral

G'day All,
Yesterday I bought a 2004 KLR650 and also joined this group. This is
my first time with Kawasaki and Adventure bikes. I fully expected to
have to ask for your help, I just wasn't expecting to have to ask
for help quite so soon!
The shift lever was set very high when I got the bike, so I adjusted
it to suit my riding style. Now I can't find neutral. I'm really
puzzled, since I didn't do anything else, although I do recall
pressing the lever down (I assumed into first gear) when I was
tightening the bolt.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in anticipation

I'm bettin it's just loose or not adjusted quite the way you want it.
Many have had the same problem, not catchin neutral.
Keep playin with it, pretty sure you'll get it right.
If not, these guys will figure it out.

G'day Nige,
There are a couple of us here in (near) Melbourne as well as most
other States are represented. I am in Broadford and Maurice is down in
the Eastern suburbs.
As far as your gearbox goes, do you have all the other gears and can't
find neutral on the way through? or are you stuck (jammed) in first?

G'day Gavin,
I have tried twice to reply to posts (yours and another by Rod), but
my replies don't sem to appear, so I have posted a new one.I must be
doing something wrong.
I managed to fix it by making sure the lever was fully seated after
talking to the guy I bought it off.
If you do see my previous reply, you'll see I live in Eltham.
Thanks for your reply
Cheers

Gday all I have been hanging around DSN_KLR for a while now , I
am considering a Tengai that a mate has for sale , i think from
memory its a 91 model Blue and white .
It looks and sounds ok even when cold eg no unusual rattles , it
has a couple of minor cracks in the plastics , good tyres chains
etc but the speedo says about 50,000 kilometers. Can I do a
compression check easisly or does the KLR have one of those low
engine speed decompressor set ups that defy usual methods?

I find when shifting gets kinda weird I change oil and it clears right
up. Can't explain why, but it seems to help me. YMMV

Gday Dave
There are several bikes on here with a fair bit more than 50,000km
(30,000 miles) and a few Tengais as well.
I looked at a tengai at Maurie Quincy's about two years ago and that
had about 65000km on it and sounded sweet.
The KLR's do have a compression release

Don't tell my wife she works at Target, not Tarzhay. If she realizes its
not an upscale French boutique, she might quit.

Only the ones that are pronounced Tarzhay.
