stock side stand

I checked my shim sizes today onmy 893 KLR 650 and followed http://www.klr650.marknet.us/valves.html (very well done) I found my sizes and was putting everything back together. After tourqing the valve caps down I turned the engine by hand. I instantly heard a sound that was not there before. Then I realized I did not put the cam chain tentioner spring back in before I turned it. I turned it about 1/8 of a turn. I turned it back to TDC and put the spring back in. Did I screw anything up? Now on to the noise it sounds like it's coming from the starter but could be something else. Maybe the cam chain? I can feel it when I lay my hand on the starter though. Is this sound related to not putting the spring back in? The bike is in neutral. Thanks for the help
