Hello, Can anyone tell me the principal modifications made to the California spec bikes and if it affects performance etc. I live in Vancouver, Canada, but have the opportunity to buy a KLR from San Francisco, but I don't want one that's had its performance affected by smog control. Thanks.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but the only thing I found was the carbon canister and vent tube on the tank. At least this was what I found on my 2000. I did de-californacate the bike 3 years ago, I live in NM now, and didn't really notice a big change. MPG and speed look about the same. HtH, Denis
