carburator problem and other questions

Hello all,
I got my KRL, a 1993 with 4000 miles, a couple of months ago and I
love it. I have put 1000 trouble free miles on it, except that a
couple of days ago I started having a problem. It needed some
throttle to start in the morning (usually it just fires up with a
little choke), then in the afternoon, the engine cut off at a stop
sign. It wouldn't start again without throttle, and it would only run
with the throttle open at above 3000 rmp. If I let the throttle close
and rmp drop, the engine would cut off. As I was sitting with the
engine running between 3-4 thousand rmp, I noticed a puddle forming
under the bike. Further inspection revealed that the puddle was
gasoline, which was dripping from the drain hose from the carburator
overflow valve. So I figure that the fuel valve on the float is
leaking. I drained the float bowl and started the engine, and the
problem was fixed. I drove around, stop and go for 30 minutes with no
problems, then went on the highway for a 20 minute run. When I came
to a stop again, the engine died, wouldn't run with the throttle
closed, and leaked more gas from the overflow valve. So my question
is do I need to completely rebuild the carb or is there an easier
way? With a bike this old and such low miles, the o-rings and gaskets
are probably shot, so a carb rebuild might be a good idea anyway.
Where can I get a rebuild kit for the CVK 40? I searched google and
just found lots of atermarket jet kits, but no gaskets and o-rings.
Also I had about a quarter cup of engine oil in the drain tube that
comes from the airbox and has a plastic funnel and cap on the bottom.
Is this normal? When I changed the oil filter for the first time last
week, I tried to push the end of the pipe that goes through the
middle of the filter with my finger. It seems like it should be
springy on the end, but mine didn't budge, and I'm wondering if it's
siezed in the bore. Is is supposed to take a lot of pressure to
compress the spring inside the pipe?
Thanks for your response,
