rpm

my A13 is doing a little over 4000 rpm at 65 mph, with stock gearing. as to wheelies, I take off in first, go about 10 feet, back off the throttle which makes the front forks dive a little, when the forks start to rebound twist the throttle WFO while pulling back on the bars. be sure to cover the rear brake with your foot so if it gets out of control, you can bring it back down.... gary A13

The "white stuff" is airplane glue. I personally would use KREEM or its ilk only for gas tanks that are so rusted that they're no longer gas-tight. Otherwise I would use the solution recommended by the manufacturers, which is to wash the tank out with MEK to get rid of any varnish or other such fuel residues, then fill it with dilute phosphoric acid. The phosphoric acid reacts with the remaining rust and turns it into a hard black coating which serves to protect the remaining steel. The KREEM merely covers up the remaining rust and allows rusting to continue going on behind it. -E

I bought a used 2000 klr650 and my freind bought a new 2004 klr650. My bike averages aprox 500rpm more than my friends bike at highway speed. We both have a 15 tooth counter sproket and the 43 tooth rear sproket. Does anybody have any ideas as to why my bikes rpm is higher and how to lower it.

Do you have the same tyres and are they worn equally? Tyres are effectively a part of the gearing system. If they are identical and your clutch is not slipping there must be some gearbox ratio difference and the only way to lower your revs would be to change that, don't worry about it, just ride. I was wondering about that the other day. We all know the speedos are off, because there are lots of ways to check that. But HTF do you check a tach? A tiny little GPS mounted on the piston?! erik

Doh. Of course. Do your speedos agree on the speed when you ride together? That would eliminate the front tyre from the equation unless there are offsetting errors caused by the tyre and the speedo...
