supertrapp woes

Well, another one bites the dust. I, too, had excessive play between the "S-bend" pipe and the muffler canister. (IDS2) Strapp customer service told me to use Hi temp RTV. I did, I used Permatex Hi Temp Copper. Let it cure for two and half days. Started the bike up today, and the damn thing leaked exhaust immediately. I took the thing apart, removed all the RTV, what a pain. Then, just for kicks, I put the supplied clamp on the muffler can and tightened it down all the way. I was still able to slide the muffler can on/off the "S-bend" pipe with ease. RTV is not going to solve this problem. So then I got out the trusty dial calipers. First of all, the can inlet is out of round by .020", then I had a minimum size difference of .050" from the OD of the "S-bend" pipe and the ID of the muffler can. What a joke. I have strongly supported Supertrapp because of past products that I have used. This setup sucks the big one. Not only are the disc fasteners weak, and the pipe vs muffler don't fit up right, but if you look really close, you will notice that the "S-bend" pipe isn't even bent correctly. Then to add insult to injury, I just had my muffler at Supertrapp to fix a failed fastener for holding the discs in place, the darn thing was gone to Supertrapp for a whole month. I have decided to give them one last chance to provide me with a good and permanent fix. If they won't or can't, then I'm going to demand a full refund. My advice to any others out there is, if you have any problems with your IDS or IDS2 system, get on Supertrapp now. Get your problems fixed now, cause they won't fix them later. I think I am going to look into a Big Gun Quiet Core with Spark Arrestor. Anything has got to be better than this junk. Jim Sherlock Woeful in Wisconsin

Had a friend use an aftermarket clutch, too damn stout! I tried pulling the lever and had to ask him if he was able to pull the clutch in 'all by himslef'. OEM springs, and OEM plates should be fine for the next 43k miles. I'll be doing the clutch job on my Orange '87, using OEM parts. MarkB
