I hit a pothole and bent the rear rim on my 10 day old 2005
yesterday, The dealer wants 314.00 for a new OEM rim and says there
are no after market rims available. Can anyone tell me any different
and if so how to get one. Thanks

Your dealer is uninformed or dishonest. Call buchananspokes.com,
you'll likely pay $220 for a rim that is MUCH better quality than the
OEM.
Or, I have a complete rear wheel with sprocket and rotor, that I'd
sell you for about the same price + shipping. Lots of scratches and
gouges from tire changes, no dings.

How big a pot hole did you hit to bend the rim? Is it too badly bent to
be straightened? Does it interfere with your riding? Did the impact
destroy the tire?
Of course you can get a new rim from the after market. It is a 17x2.5 36
spoke wheel. You might have to tell them some hub dimensions if they
have never supplied a rim for a KLR. As I remember a new rim from east
coast wheels costs about $175.
I would try another shop and get their opinion.

The same $220 is about the price for an Excel rim, beefier spokes and spoke
nipples, from Wheel Works - 714.530.6681. They can provide a 17" or 18" rim and
spokes.

Assuming so.. thoughts?
Wouldn't mind reducing my profile. The while line lane is kinda small
sometimes...

Keeping in mind; The dirtier, and the more scratches on a KLR part,
increases the value significantly.
