hydraulic clutch opinions please

I think Magura does use some sort of mineral oil in it's HYMEC clutch kits. I installed the Dual-Star unit on my A14 just to reduce the clutch pull. I wasn't worried about cable life or ease of adjustment I just wanted my clutch to be easier to pull in, for some reason my KLR had a hellishly stiff clutch. I pulled the clutch pivot and lubed it, replaced the cable with the heavy duty one, lubed and adjusted the lever all for nothing. Riding off road my hand would get so tired that I could hardly disengage the clutch to save my life. The dual-star (magura) unit gives me a true two finger clutch pull and makes the bike much more enjoyable to ride off road and even in heavy traffic. Not all KLRs have the same clutch pull, I sampled a bunch at NOAB and found some to be almost as smooth as the hydraulic unit and some almost as bad as my original system. The Dual-Star comes with a SS braided hose now so with proper routing I doubt snagging is a big issue. And for the paranoid, you could always carry the old cable and lever assembly as a back up. It is pricey but for my bike totally worth it. Karl A14
