Don't be hurt It's just that Southampton is 2hr east of NYC, which makes it 3hrs east of some folks in NJ. I most likely can't do an overnight trip now or in the immediate future (despite your very gracious invitation), so pretty much a day trip or a morning is what I can manage. Here's my $.02 It is getting late in the season for me. (local forecast calls for flurries Monday) Maybe we (EC KLR riders) should plan now for a big get-together in spring, to celebrate the end of winter, and go doohickey wild. We could invade Brian's house and have a good time. It'd be extra cool to have some West Coast brethren out here to join in the fun. Maybe the EC KLR folks could set a new doohickey record? OR [mischievous look in my eyes] we could have a wintertime rallye, in homage to Europe's elefanttreffen. Call it the KLR-fant. Take over a ski resort for a few days of mayhem. I found a site somewhere that had the height, width, and pullback specs for all of the popular 3rd-party handlebars that fit on the KLR. Unfortunately, none of them had the same specs as the stock bars. They were either narrower, lower, or had more pullback. So if you like the stock bars' height, width, and pullback specs, you'll have to get the OEM ones from Ron Ayers or Arrowhead (or from your local dealer if they're not total asses and will match or at least come close to mail order prices). Personally I suspect I may want bars that pull back a little more and are very slightly narrower but are about the same height. Right now I've rotated my bars back a bit to get them closer to me (I don't have gorilla arms, and if I center the crosspiece between the clamps the bars are a bit too far forward for comfort on long trips), but this puts the bars a bit on the low side. And the width keeps my arms WAY out there, and again, I don't have gorilla arms. But to tell you the truth, for the most part I'm happy with the stock bars too, I've ridden hundreds of miles a day with the stock setup and never had any real comfort issues with the bars themselves. (Now that pitiful excuse for a stock windshield... worthless. Utterly worthless). Followup on my balancer adjustment: As you may recall, when I changed my doohickey I also re-timed my balancer chain. I am happy to note that while there's still plenty of vibration coming from the big thumper, the combination of new doohickey, stronger spring, and re-timed balancer chain seems to have tamed things enough so that at least my hands no longer go numb during long rides. Last Sunday I rode about 400 miles with no problems there. Nobody is going to ever call the KLR "smooth", but at least it's survivable now. -E
