I used WD 40 to clean my chain last night, then lubricated with PJ1.
Does anyone know if WD40 is okay for o-ring chains? Great time to
ask.

That's all I use on my chain. Ride - get home - spray while warm. Repeat. Jim> I used WD 40 to clean my chain last night, then lubricated with PJ1. > Does anyone know if WD40 is okay for o-ring chains? Great time to > ask.
That's also all I use. I've found that an additional benefit is that you don't have to spray it on a warm chain. The stuff is thin enough to get in where it needs to on a cold chain, unlike say gear oil. Bogdan> > That's all I use on my chain. Ride - get home - spray while warm. Repeat. > > Jim
Hmmm! How did that used to go? Heat gear grease and paraffin wax in a container on the stove till your significant other started yelling at you then soak chain and let cool. Hang to drip. WD40 to clean and then Chain-Wax on a warm chain. 9000 miles and no problems yet. Ed Snow 2001 KLR650> I used WD 40 to clean my chain last night, > then lubricated with PJ1. > Does anyone know if WD40 is okay for o-ring > chains? Great time to ask.
All I use is WD40, generally spraying down the chain after a wet or dirty ride, maybe once a month otherwise to keep it from rusting. I used to use 90wt gear oil, until after my first trail ride in NJ sand I was looking at Devon's bike with a relatively spotless chain, compared to my chain that looked like I was trying to make some sort of sand casting of it. WD40 nearly dries out after it sits for a day and picks up FAR less grit than a wet oiled chain will. -- ___ ______ _____ __ ________ ___ / _ |< < / == / ___/__ / /_ /_ __/ / __ ____ _ ___ /__ \ / __ |/ // / ****/ (_ / _ \/ __/ / / / _ \/ // / ' \/ _ \ /__/ /_/ |_/_//_/ == \___/\___/\__/ /_/ /_//_/\_,_/_/_/_/ .__/ (_) 8600 miles*Russel Lines*Supertrapp Race* /_/ http://www.kingsqueak.org/klr650/> I used WD 40 to clean my chain last night, then lubricated with PJ1. > Does anyone know if WD40 is okay for o-ring chains? I guess it is time for the update I promised: Pierce, You can get this from Arrowhead http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com/ for about $30.00 Not really made for KLR (sort of an all purpose part). May want to do a small amount of Dremeling of plastic where is goes around forks. Also note that wheel needs to be off, so have stand and cotter pin handy. Howard: As for performance (buffeting), I don't think large or small fender is a factor. Seems the same to me. I get some buffeting at 75-80mph that seems to be more related to whether I have the JCWhitney case on the bike. (small amount of buffeting with case, less without). For the $$$ I'm happy with it. This winter I may open up the bolts hole and make the above mentioned mod and give myself some more clearance. Will be changing to street tires at that time. (don't throw me out of the KLR group until I put on the clip-ons and rear-sets!) Mike Cocorochio Well alrighty then. I wondered how it was at speed. My consern was it seemed very close to the front tire. I do use my A-18 for dirt work. Looks like you could get a rock stuck in the fender.
