carrying rack
Mike,
I hear what you're saying. I had the same ideas a
while ago and had to make something that would carry
(support) more weight when needed.
I took an 18" square plate of old state highway
sing aluminum and notched one side (end) to clear the
seat when removed and cut a hole for the stock KLR
tool bok too. I drilled the stock luggage rack twice
on each side so bolt the plate to. I have a
rectangular milk crate bolted to the plate most of the
time to carry crap in. It ain't pretty but it works
great. Besides, If you wanted to be pretty, you
sohould have bought a KTM or Beemer
.
I can unbolt the milk crate in minutes if I need to
but I don't that often. I lined the front of the
plate up with the back of the seat so a few inches of
the plate hang over the back of the stock rack. My
milk crate is bolted ot the plate towards the rear of
the plate, giving me more room infront of the milk
crate to bungy other crap to the seat, like a sleeping
bag, tent, bed rool, etc.
Works for me. Will send pics if you email me
direct.
