Hail list!
My stock grips were getting pretty trashed so.....just installed some
Scott Competition 2 grips.
Tried the hair spray method I'd heard somebody here mention, a month or so
back....worked great getting them on. Going to let them set overnight to let
things dry.
These new grips look trick (grey/black) & have been told that they'll
dampen vibration some. They've an outer layer of rubber glued to
them...they're still not as thick as I'd like.
Have looked at alot of different grips in the last couple of weeks, haven't
really found any that seemed any more well padded than the stockers.
Any suggestions on grips that are clearly better (thicker), than the
stockers?

Scott,
"PRO GRIP" makes many colors/styles of road & dirt gel grips.
Dennis Kirk sells "NOJ" neoprene comfort grip wraps ($12 USD)
in their street bike catalog. These are machine washable &
fastens with a hook & loop system.

Best grip cement I've found is plain old hair spray. Wet the inside of the
grip, and work quickly: slide it on with a twisting motion, and position it.
Let it set up for a while before you ride out. Holds firm, and lots
easier to remove the old grips when they get ugly.

Jake: My favorite 'grip glue' is spray paint. Works just like your
hairspray tip. -Pat

I had the same problem when I first bought the bike, about 1 year
ago. I replaced the stock grips with Pro-Grip Gel Grips 714 I
ordered from Fred (http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com/). While they
seemed to help a little it did NOT cure the problem. I am looking at
ordering the Renthal Desert/Vintage Handlebar, also from Fred, to see
if they help at all.
I am also interested in how others have solved the problem.

I'm not bothered by vibration on any of my bikes, and some of them are notorious for vibration.
The #714 gel grips from Progrip are a big help. Aluminum handlebars aren't necessarily the answer, but I have them on both my XT500(un-counterbalanced, aircooled single) and the KLR650. The previous bars on the KLR were taken from a 76 XS650(Yamaha 650 vertical twin)and the vibration was LESS with those steel bars. Filling the bars with silicone caulk and buckshot may have some merit.

I don't have vibration issues any more because:
- the bike is running smooth, jetted correctly, balancer adjusted,
doohickey replaced.
- installed Renthal Suzuki Quadracer bend, they did help reduce the
vibs. The mirrors work better as well.
- I don't grip the bars to tight.
