klr 'unbalanced' counterbalancer

I've searched the archives so I don't think this has been covered,
not recently at least:
About a month ago I released the 'doohickey' bolt to adjust the
counterbalancer chain. Suddenly I have a vibration that feels like
the balancer is gone! No undue noise, like when the chain gets loose
(I shoulda left the dang thing alone, it was quiet...)just a low freq
vibe that is worse at about 3500 rpms but is present across the range
from 2000 to 5000. Other than the vibration, the bike runs sweet.
It is an A12 with 21,000 plus miles, jet kit, SuperTrapp, K&N, etc.
A friend suggested that the spring broke (I have about 1500 miles or
less on new doohickey and spring). I doubt it.
Any ideas? Anyone have a similar experience?

Sounds like the doohickey busted when you tightened the bolt back down,
thus letting the spring take up all the slack. Or else the spring had
busted, so when you tightened the bolt, you actually let tension OFF the
balancer change. Either way, you're going to have to go into the left side
and fix it
