All knowing KLRers.
Question #1 Has anyone used the add on mirror vibration dampers. Do they
work & are they worth $9.95 + shipping etc.?
Question #2 We have two KLR's in our group that have fairings that came
from the factory crooked. Can they be straightened.? They have not been
dropped.
Thanks

I have the even more expensive XR mirrors and dampeners (the cheap ones
weren't available when I was buying). Even the more expensive ones were
definitely worth it for me.

I've covered my A14 mirrors completely with 4" round wide-angle
mirrors (stick on type). The "wide angle" view eliminates blurring
due to vibration.
How do you mean the fairing is crooked? Mounting holes in the wrong
location or the plastic is some how warped? This sounds like it
should've been covered by the warranty?

I can answer question #1: I have the $9.95 dampers (ebay) and yes, they
do work - kinda sorta.
Without them, the mirrors shook so bad at 55+ mph that I couldn't even
tell if something was behind me.
With them, they just jiggle and I can see if it's a car or a truck or a
bike, but cannot tell the make and model.
If anyone has dampers / mirrors that work better, I'd like to hear about
it and would pay more to have them.

I also sell those el cheapo mirror dampers along with the Honda Mirrors. I
have heard nothing but good about the Honda Mirrors, but I can't say the
same for the el cheapos. A few years ago someone coming to the CMC put the
mirror dampers on in Texas and by the time they got to Utah they were
falling apart. He went home with the Honda Mirrors.

I've got these and yes, they work pretty well. The image, or reflection,
jiggles a little over bumps and so forth. For $10 it's definitely worth it.

The fairing will straighten up easily. I removed the plastic fairing piece
and tugged on the faring supports to get it straight again but you could
probably straighten it w/o removing the plastic. I got anal about it and
took measurements to ensure it was straight

As to the anti-vibration mirror dampers - they work pretty good. If you get
them you may want to consider that I tighten them only enough to keep from
getting loose in normal riding. In this manner they will rotate when you
crash and not break themselves or the handlebar mounts ;-0

As I mentioned in a post earlier this month, I have the Ken Sean folding
enduro type mirrors and find they vibrate far less than my stock ones did.

re: the other question about crooked fairing.
My first KLR, a 98, had the fairing mounted crooked. I tried to
straighten it but it looked like too much work for little benefit, so
I had a few beers instead. I sure do miss that bike.

Miss the bike - I miss my 1970 Triumph Bonneville...
Damn, I blew it in 'cleaning out the garage"... 15 years ago ;-(
I also miss my BMW 80/6, but not near as much.
I love my KLR, so all is AOK.
