I've got a 11" "Clearview" on mine and for road work it helps. The airstream hits the top of my helmet in a normal riding position. There's less buffeting and a lot less bugs. With my HJC moto-x helmet on there's a strange "motor" noise at one spot behind the screen, but it's no big deal. I'm 5'10" and always wear ear plugs, and most (lately all) of my riding is on the highway from home to work. For the dirt or trail I take the tall screen off, only five screws.

I got the 9" over stock and love it. It throws the wind right over me most of the time. After the wife pushes me onto the gas tank(riding 2 up) I get some wind at the top of the helmet. Joe A18 SE Ky. --- seapro20 wrote:

This doesn't exactly answer your question, since everyone seems to like the Clearview or Rifle windshields. But I have a Kawi OEM "high" screen (I got it cheap from a lister) and I did some experimenting with it over the last couple of days, so I thought someone might be interested. All wind tests were conducted at 75 mph into our standard 15-20 mph Bay Area afternoon wind. I've had the high shield on the bike for over a year now and it definitely increases the noise at the helmet. I'm 6'2" and it sends turbulent air right at my head. It is an annoyance even with earplugs. I must say I like being able to crouch behind it in cold weather, but it's summer. So I took it off and put the OEM low shield back on. Right away I noticed that the noise was lessened and not as offensive. However, the high shield also does an excellent job of deflecting air away from the arms and shoulders. I noticed that the bike was much more subject to crosswinds as a "pocket" would build around my shoulders and literally move my arms. (I'm a tall guy but not built like a gorilla.) I think that the somewhat non- aerodynamic shape of the stock fairing creates a lot of buffeting which is exacerbated by the upright riding position. By contrast, my Monster with its bikini fairing and clipons is far quieter at speed, although the wind blast is similar, because it's so much smoother. Then, I took off the low shield completely. This made the wind blast somewhat smoother (if not really quieter), but the blast was directed right at my chest and shoulders, and the bike seemed to be working much harder to stay at speed. Rider fatigue would be very much increased with this setup. Conclusion: I'm putting the high shield back on and will live with the buffeting at the helmet. YMMV, in fact it probably will. I am 6' tall and have the Clearview tinted 11" over stock and love it. It is no good in the dirt though so keep that in mind. You may want to consider the 7" over stock for your height. I found the Kawasaki 4" over stock as useless as the stock windshield. I bought mine from www.happy-trail.com and it was actually cheaper than buying it from Clearview. They can calculate the size that would work best for your height. I am buying most of my bike accessories from them. They are the most pleasant people to deal with and will match lower prices found on the internet. Good luck with it.

I agree. I'm 6' and also have the tinted 11+. It puts the air flow, bugs and other road junk over my head. It's all about having the correct windshield for your height. The other thing about being behind a protective shield like this is that it reduces the fatigue which comes from fighting against the oncoming wind. And, I don't don't what kind of summer some of you are having, but here on the East coast - Massachusetts - but I'm definitely not getting too hot with the windshield installed. Me too....In '95 I broke my ankle while riding my little Yamaha XT225, but I decided I wanted to ride around for another hour or so, since I knew I would be casted and unable to ride for a while. I couldn't use the rear brake without moving my heel onto the brake lever, so that's what I did. Even though I don't own a Honda, when I'm riding my KLR, I'm often chanting(singing) the Honda tune inside my helmet...I wanna ride I wanna ride I wanna ride, gotta gotta gotta ride it, etc....
