A buddy of mine was telling me that the KLR 650 is a rebranded
Suzuki. He says Suzuki bought Kawasaki a couple years ago and some
bikes are Suzuki, some Kawasaki. I'm beginning to think I've been
had. How does a bike in it's 18th year of production become a
rebranded Suzuki? Anyway, can anyone out there more knowledgable
about motorcycles help me out? Is there any truth to this or is he
just pulling my leg?

Your buddy is just being ignorant; whether it's deliberate is for you to decide.

Sounds like your buddy works for Canadian intelligence agency! In
other words he has not a clue of what is really happening,,,,

The klx400 is a rebranded suzuki drz 400. The only difference I am
aware of between the two is the color of the plastic.

Kawasaki and Suzuki have no ownership ties. They simply created a marketing
alliance.

I own a Kawasaki KLX 400E, 2003. It has green plastic and Suzuki
made it. It has a Suzuki sticker on a frame tube right behind the
Carb on the left side. It is a green DRZ 400, and works great, and
looks great next to my 2004 green KLR 650.

I think Suzuki rebadged some of the Kawasaki cruisers
