side racks and rear turn signal mounting

Hello. I have the side racks that I use for Givi bags, but have one problem. With the racks mounted not much of the threads for the turn signals come through the top rack and side rack. I cannot get one of the nuts for the a turn signal to gain purchase on the threads. Is there any solution to get more of the threads for the turn signal stalk to come through for easy nut fastening? Different stalks? Shaving material? Thanks. eric A8
