I think the blank for the Suzuki sv650 fits the klr. I had a
spare made up when I got my bike but the keys at home so I'll check and let
youse know Monday .

Instead of asking the dealer to make a key for you,
and getting a blank
look, ask him to *sell you the correct blank*, and
get... well, a blank.
Then you take the blank to any place that copies
keys and get the key
made.
Most years of KLRs have at least two different
blanks (right-hand and
left-hand; there are a couple of other variations).
A good dealer can
look at the parts diagram, find both part numbers,
look at your key,
and sell you the one you need. A crappy dealer, on
the other hand,
will have to look up which one is correct from your
VIN, so bring it
with you.
Or just look at the parts diagram for yourself,
figure out which blank
you need, and order it from ron ayers. I've never
done it, but they
_should_ be able to sell you a blank just like any
other dealer could.
