rubbing sound on new klr650

Post by alvahgarrett » Wed May 12, 2004 12:44 pm

I just bought a 2004 KLR650, and I am getting a rubbing sound, like either a tire or the chain is rubbing against something. I am a big guy, weigh 250, I have set the shock on a stiffer setting, checked everything I can see. It is not connected to braking, or stopping, or acceleration. I can't hear it except at low speed, probably since the engine sound goes up and covers it up. I don't feel anything weird thru the handlebars, I don't think I am bottoming out the shock. I am wondering if it is the little plastic plate that is close to the tire and the chain. Anyone with an idea. The bike has about 65 miles on it as of today. Runs great, I love it, but the stupid rubbing (like something plastic rubbing against something else) is driving me nuts. Al G.

The black chain guard is probably rubbing the tire or the chain. Bend it back. Z DC A5X A12X

Can't fault your reasoning. There is a lot of overlap in function between the two.
