klr 650 after market exhaust and air cleaner anddrill holes in air

First off I am glad I stumbled across this group. I am a proud owner
of a 2004 KLR650 with 1700 miles on it. Fun miles on it I must add.
Even though it is somewhat powerful I want more power. I was
wondering if anyone has upgraded to after market exhaust and air
cleaner and also have drilled a hole in the air box. I have looked
on the Internet for instructions and performance improvement tables,
as well as jetting plots for different desired effects to jetting. I
have not been that lucky on finding much of anything. Any ideas on
improving power please let me know.
If anyone has any input to help me or links and stories if I should
or should not do this please let me know. I also want to know how
much improvement I would get out of the money spent. Also I am in
Northern CA and looking to do a desert run this summer to Nevada and
would like to go with a group of people.
