I see that JC Whitney has some for a reasonable price. Has any one
used them? Any other sources for cheap ones that are servicable?

I have the Whitney 16 or 16 1/2" irons, and I use them all the time for tubeless tires on the Wings and VFR - work just fine. I didn't want to carry anything that big on the KLR, so I bought 3 of the 8 1/2" Motion Pro irons. They're only about $5 ea. They are very well designed and they worked great for me on my 1st tire change last week. I was changing a rear stocker to another tube type tire. No problem at all, and I'd have no problem attempting it along the road. The MP irons have a nice little hook that works well for grabbing the rim, but is small enough that it does not grab the tube. I was tickled. First tube type tire I'd changed since an old Triumph years ago. Would have been equally difficult with a plain spoon or with an iron with a big hooked end, imo. You can find them here (search for Motion Pro or irons) as well as many other sites. riding apparel-discount jackets without armor
Here is an idea re: armor.
I puchased from www.actionstation.com
their mesh crusader top and adventure pants (tights). I wear the top
which has back, chest, shoulders, elbows and wrist armor under a
light Levi Jacket or on a hot day with a tee shirt or plain.
The tights I wear under jeans.
On cool foggy mornings here in the Bay Area I wear the entire outfit
under an old old snowmobile suit.( Aerostich eat your heart out).
This is versatile stuff. Can be worn under anything. Cost about
$150.00 each.
ride safely,
Don
