Scott--- Jakes 'hickey n spring are waiting for me to install next Friday at Mark's NOAB base. I can't see them like you can, but it's on my mind alot. Feels like anticipating a dentist's appointment. After the 50/50 rubber The Mule currently sports get trashed, I'm thinking about going with 606's or MT21's. Are the 606's scary only when new, or are they just inherently unstable on pavement like any aggressive knobby? Have you tried the Pirelli MT21's? Which do you think are stickier onroad? Haven't tried the MT21's. Have gone thru a set of D606's on the KLR. Scary when new, once scrubbed in, they do well onroad considering they're knobs. Long lasting/well made tire, but Will force you to adjust your ride style, onroad. Scrubbed in, you can have some fun on the street, they're stable as knobs go...but loud, & nowhere near the kind of fun the (current A14 sneaker) TKC-80's are. With the Dunlops, you eventually develop a knack for sliding abit in turns on the asphalt. That can be fun, but the TKC's grip the road alot like the stockers, confidence inspiring. Offroad, the Dunlops are awesome. Makes the KLR feel lighter in turns. TKC's are no D606's offroad, but best compromise I've found. All that said, wouldn't hesitate to get another set of the Dunlops for the KLR, depending on it's intended purpose at that moment. Everyone should try em once, just to see how good the KLR can hook up/turn offroad. All best. I generally ride everyday Monday through Friday on my minimum 70 mile round trip commute. Today was especially interesting: This morning, basicaly out in the middle of nowhere, I came upon a freshly killed MOUNTAIN LION CUB!. Beautiful animal. Apparently it had been hit by a car. Not squished, just a little blood comming out the mouth. Very impressive. Awe inspiring. Twas a wide open area without any trees or high brush so I was pretty sure mom wasn't still around. I suppose she could have been hiding in the high grass. I really got a chance to check it out up close and personal. Almost cute until to remember it's basically a land shark that will carry away your children and pets with zero remorse. I kinda wonder how smart it was to be so close? Comming home after work I decided to hit some dirt roads that had been unaccesible (to me anyway) due to some flooding. I was able to go around the first section that keping me out. Got to the second and uugghh. Bummer. Too much water. I gave myself that "you're just a whimp" talk but turned around justifying to myself ... yaknow I'd do it if I wasn't alone excuse. Then I got pissed. I thought this is ridiculous. I rode back to the first section and took a couple runs right though the middle. No problem. Quite fun actually! Went back to the second section and didn't hesitate. Went striaght in and before I knew it the motor just up and died. I got off and was standing in water knee deep water. Suddenly it dawned on me the importance of the "T" fittting. Darn. I should do that mod. My Apline* Tech 6's were instantly filled with water. I pushed the KLR to dry land. Luckly I was on a fairly rocky bottom. Actually I already knew this or I probably would have never even tried in the first place. I had a sigh of relief as the electric starter brought the motor back to life. Just after I got off the dirt and onto the pavement I came across a huge rattle snake. Best I could tell it had about eight rattles. What a day. Now that I've got a KLR I look forward to getting up at 4:30 A.M. and going to work. Won't be long and the kids won't have anything to do with me, and my weekends will be free too! But I think the secret is to take life as it comes. But for now it sure was cool to come home with some wet feet :>} Matt>
