i have an oil leak around the balancer bolt. i think when i put the side cover back on it may have rolled or cut the o ring. any hints how NOT to do this again when i replace the o ring this time ?? also i put the upgrade bolt in from arrowhead and now the rubber plug will not go back in. im thinking of grinding a little off the head of the bolt. anyone else have this prob ?? how did u fix it ?? thanks for the help, scott

I had that problem - easy fix. Just lean the bike over to the right, pull the adjuster bolt all the way out and replace the o-ring. It's probably just worn. The rubber cap- just do what ya gotta do. -----Original Message----- From: vintageracer88881 [mailto:vintageracer88881@...] Sent: Wednesday, April 07, 2004 5:15 PM To: DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com Subject: [DSN_klr650] oil leak ....... i have an oil leak around the balancer bolt. i think when i put the side cover back on it may have rolled or cut the o ring. any hints how NOT to do this again when i replace the o ring this time ?? also i put the upgrade bolt in from arrowhead and now the rubber plug will not go back in. im thinking of grinding a little off the head of the bolt. anyone else have this prob ?? how did u fix it ?? thanks for the help, scott List sponsored by Dual Sport News at www.dualsportnews.com. Be gentle.... very gentle. I've never had a problem here, but I'm thinking maybe slather some grease on the o-ring before replacing the cover. Don't worry about the rubber plug; just leave it off, it's useless. Two of my bikes have 'em missing. Mark http://www.reelrider.com

As I remember, there is a washer on this bolt. How can you assure - even leaning it over - that the washer will sit there and not get lost in the crankcase? Lee

I have had this happen with Trakmasters and MT21s (some of my local riding spots are illegal dumps and there's all sorts of crap lying around in the weeds). If I didn't see belting, and the tire didn't have a bulge, I would keep an eye on it for a while but keep using it. The odds of another piece of glass hitting (and deepening) the same spot are so high that your attention would be better spent avoiding the (much greater) possibility of some idiot in an SUV knocking you off. -- Devon Brooklyn, NY A15-Z '01 KLR650 '81 SR500 cafe racer "The truth's not too popular these days....." NO, there is no washer between the bolt and the adjuster lever. You can check diagram on buykawasaki.com / balancer -----Original Message----- From: Lee Dickinson [mailto:r100rt@...] Sent: Friday, April 09, 2004 6:59 AM To: DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com; identek Subject: Re: [DSN_klr650] oil leak .......

From the '96 KLR on there is a washer. http://www.buykawasaki.com/scripts/ImgServ.exe/convert?ilFN=e:\epcimages\C16\C1681\E1323.TIF&ilIF=P&ilSC=25&ilIV=0&ilBR=0 Before the '96 model there isn't one. This is part of the upgrade for the late models. http://www.buykawasaki.com/scripts/ImgServ.exe/convert?ilFN=e:\epcimages\C15\C1500\E1323.TIF&ilIF=P&ilSC=25&ilIV=0&ilBR=0 Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/cmc.html
