tire is cut, how much is too much?

i have an oil leak around the balancer bolt. i think when i put the side cover back on it may have rolled or cut the o ring. any hints how NOT to do this again when i replace the o ring this time ?? also i put the upgrade bolt in from arrowhead and now the rubber plug will not go back in. im thinking of grinding a little off the head of the bolt. anyone else have this prob ?? how did u fix it ?? thanks for the help, scott

I had that problem - easy fix. Just lean the bike over to the right, pull the adjuster bolt all the way out and replace the o-ring. It's probably just worn. Be gentle.... very gentle. I've never had a problem here, but I'm thinking maybe slather some grease on the o-ring before replacing the cover. Don't worry about the rubber plug; just leave it off, it's useless. Two of my bikes have 'em missing. Mark http://www.reelrider.com

As I remember, there is a washer on this bolt. How can you assure - even leaning it over - that the washer will sit there and not get lost in the crankcase? Lee

I have had this happen with Trakmasters and MT21s (some of my local riding spots are illegal dumps and there's all sorts of crap lying around in the weeds). If I didn't see belting, and the tire didn't have a bulge, I would keep an eye on it for a while but keep using it. NO, there is no washer between the bolt and the adjuster lever. As I remember, there is a washer on this bolt. How can you assure - even leaning it over - that the washer will sit there and not get lost in the crankcase?
