So I finally got her all apart (borrowing metric tools), and I see that the "doohickey" is busted! But the 600 has a different style. It is stamped, one piece, and very fragile looking. The lever (hickey) for the 650 will fit your bike. The early 650's
have the same part as yours. when you put it together, just forget
the circlip.
