forged piston, normal noise?

I got a good deal on a new bored out cylinder (695cc) and a forged
piston to match. Just got it back together recently, and MAN does it
sound like its going to fly apart. A friend of mine told me that
forged pistons just sound like that, but I'm seeking input from
anyone that has installed one in their KLR. Factory compression raito
is 9.5/1 and this one is 10.5/1 and am running 91 octane without
predetination. Sounds like valve noise, but I just got the head
redone and the adjustment is within spec. I've also installed a new
balance chain and the doohickey upgrade. And have checked twice that
my balance chain has been installed correctly. All the punchmarks on
all shafts and gears line up.
I've got 250 nice easy miles on it, but not sure how long the break
in period should last. I make sure i warm it up properly before I
take it for a spin. I'm hoping it will sound better when its broken
in...
Any background in general on forged pistons and the break in
procedure would be greatly appriciated.

your engine might be out of balance if the piston is significantly heavier
than the standard one. Also, are you sure you don't have broken rings ?
Perhaps a compression test or a stethoscope woudl help determine what the
problem is.

Judging by the before-and-after when I replaced the stock cast piston on
my SR500 (9:1cr) with a forged Wiseco (10:1), your friend is talking out
of his a$$. A properly fitting piston, with correct ring end gap,
doesn't sound any different. It DOES make a "tight" sort of noise for
the first 50-100mi or so as the rings bed in, but on my SR500 this
quickly went away, leaving me with a bike that uses no oil and plenty of
power.

Which IS noisy if the valves were set at the outside of spec.

Did you weigh the stock and new pistons? What clearance was the new
piston/ cylinder setup?

five stars centerstand?

Happy with the 5 Stars stand. Have bought the DualStar & Sagebrush hardware
though, as the 5 Stars hardware was known to fail.
Good bolts to keep an eye on every few thousand miles depending on how much
the stand is used. The higher grade bolts never failed, but they do bend after
extended use, & need replaced.
The centerstand! Yup, works well..even did with 3/4" drop links...which I
removed last weekend.
The links worked Great in getting the CG down (but not ludicrous down)
making for a better turning KLR offroad....but watching the Dakar re-runs has me
wanting the new KTM950S again, but since it's not on the immediate list...I
transformed the mity A14 back into my superbike of the desert. Except for it's not
quite at 90ish horsepower, or able to turn an 11sec quarter mile, or as tall.
But it's paid for, not Orange, & nearly 100lbs lighter.
The centerstand! It's been highly useful. Easy to remove for those rides
where you need all available clearance for whoops & such. Great for chain lubes,
fork/shock maintenance. Beefy & easy to use. All best.
