As I was watching the local news last night on I-5 speed traps and they
showed a Washington State Patrol motorcycle officer and he had one of those flip-up
helmets can anyone shed any light on the brand or manufacturer. I thought if
it was good enough for them I might try one thanks.

I have one made by Nolan it is called the N-100. HJC also makes one. Be
sure to try on before you buy.

Mine is a Zeus. I've had it for 6 months and am very pleased. Some wind
noise, but I have nothing else to compare it to. With the chin bar flipped
up (one hand operation) , it acts as a visor. Well designed and spoken of
highly in a Google search. Best of all, about $100.

Zeus ZS-508 is the one I will be ordering soon, the flip up is just
too cool, I like my MX helmet sure, but it sure will wake you up on a
cold morning ride, or the raindrops that keep stinging your face.
Will miss the visor, im sure but the old window tinting film across
the top should help that out some, as would a stripe of black tape on
the bottom edge to use as a visor when trail riding with the shield up.
And the Black and Lime green matches my wifes quad, so she likes it
too, we might as well have matching helmets.

I have been using a BMW flip helmet for years. Just the ability to
pay for gas without taking off my lid has been worth it. I bought
newer full face helmets and keep grabbing the flip helmet when I get
ready for a ride.

While the flip design sounds appealing, I haven't had any trouble paying
for gas with the regular full-face. Indeed, I don't usually get off the
bike. Just roll up, whip out a credit card from Aerostich pocket number
32, fuel up, and go. Don't even have to take the gloves off. Ah, the
joys of automation.
I think I'll try a flip face for my next helmet, though.

Everyone always mentions this, the paying for gas thing. I never take
my helmet off getting gas and it's a full face. Basically the only
thing I ever need to communicate is 'get away from me, I'm pumping
this' and waving my hands works just great if they don't speak
English.
I still can't count money without at least one glove off though.

Those people living in a state where they are allowed to pump their own
gas won't understand that comment. Yes, it is against the law for you to
gas up your own vehicle in NJ.
I just use my credit card- keep it in an outside pocket, dip it in the
pump like an ATM. No need to talk, but I get a lot of comments,
especially when the weather is very bad.
NOTE: you'll want to pay cash if you are en route to committing a major
felony, and you'll want to leave the EZ pass at home as well).

But as someone else said, I would always try on a helmet first before
ordering one. Shipping is just too expensive to return one that doesn't fit.

they feel awfully "cheesy" compared to Flanders steel bars.

Ronnie, if you're defining "cheesy" feeling based on the feel of
the weight, well, of course if the MSR bar is aluminum, it may
feel "cheap" compared to the steel bar. The real quality of the bar
will be hard to feel. As far as quality, it's probably the best
aluminum that a bunch melted-down MIG 21s can provide. Overall, I've
had pretty good luck with MSR products--good bang for the buck. I'm
not personally familiar with that particular handlebar, however.
