Wow....I read all these reports of the cold weather "back East"...and think how glad I am we moved out to British Columbia 14 years ago (from Ontario). Although most of BC gets real winters, here in the Fraser Valley the temperature is usually about 7 or 8 degrees C. (45F) with a fair amount of rain. I bought a new 2004 KLR on Dec 24 and have been puttering around on it when the roads are dry. I wear a cheap Canadian Tire snowmobile suit that was only about $75. It is perfect as it fits over my leather jacket, has long legs and sleeves and allows me to be comfortable for a long time.
I was out for a ride yesterday, and over an hour, did not see another bike. Then, just as I turned into Agassiz, I pass the only other guy out...on another KLR !!!
My initial impression of the bike is good. I'm a little surprised ( but it is a tall bike )at how much I get blown around by side winds, as it is usually windy here by the mountains. I'm OK with the ride height as I'm 6'2", but I sure find it hard to get off..my back is a mess and I just can't get my leg up that last inch to clear the seat ! I think the tank should be flat so that a regular tank bag fits, and a center stand should be included .
Is there a throttle lock that works on the KLR ? My old one from my CB 900F won't work. And I'm wondering how a taller windshield affects the handling, as I already feel like a sail in the crosswinds.
But a neat bike that looks good in red. Great value as I just couldn't justify more money for what is only one of my hobbies.
And a great source of info with this KLR group. Thanks to all who responded to my last letter.
