Happy new year. Pardon me if my questions seem stupid. #1 I was
wondering (of those who have done extensive off road trips) if the
center stand is a hinderance in weight and catching on things or an
an added benefit when it comes to maintence? #2 Is the front frame
mounted footpegs/engine gaurd after market accessory worth the
protection in the dirt or a hinderance(in the way and extra weight
and catching on things? Thank you for your feedback.

I never had one, but it never seems to slow down KJ when we ride offroad
together. I think it clanks a little bit, but no real problems. I just
lean my bike against something, balancing it on the front wheel and the
sidestand. Trees, guardrails, fire hydrants, unattended luxury
automobiles....

I used the H-T highway pegs for a while, they didn't get in the way
offroad. They were really nice to have for the 60mi transits from home
to trailhead. They do snag brush a little bit, and I took them off
because they didn't fit when I installed the D-S radiator bar.
If I was going to take a really long trip, I'd get off my ass and figure
out how to mount them with the radiator bar in place.

I can only answer to question #1.
I've had the center stand for a year now and have yet to catch or
hangup on anything. I've been over good sized logs with no
problems. The only problem I have is a little squeaking where the
round rubber stop meets the bottom of the rear shock linkage. A
little grease on the rubber stop solves that. As far as maintenance
goes, it has been a great help for everything from oil changes to
tires changes. Installation was simple.
