nklr places to ride in san diego area?

Post by johnbiccum@comcast.net » Sat Dec 27, 2003 10:50 am

My 14 year old son and I are visiting the San Diego area and are looking for places we can ride together. We trailered the KLR and his Honda down with us from Seattle. We found Ocotillo Wells yesterday. Let the record reflect that the KLR shod with well-worn Duro Medians is NOT the idea mount to chase the light Honda shod with MT21s thru deep sand! Both the KLR and the Honda are street-legal but of course my son has no drivers license. Other than Ocotillo Wells is there another place where we can ride together in the San Diego area?

Yes! Anyone out there with a pre-96, keep an eye on that countershaft sprocket! If you don't have the after market retainer, and shim kit that Jake makes, you need to get one. No need to worry about it, or baby it, just remember to pull off the countershaft cover every 5000 miles or so, or when your putting on a new chain, and grab it to see if it is still tight, and does not move at all on the shaft. Like Paul says above, if you don't catch it, you could be looking at BIG dollers to fix it, and a LONG down time. I was just into mine last night while doing some tweaking to my bike, and found the sprocket a little loose. This is the first time that I have found it to be loose, in about 5 checks, and 14,000 miles. I'm just gonna grab a thicker shim to take out the extra slack. MrMoose A8 (Barbie and Ken special)
