Ok, so I've been lucky for far too long. But I guess I'm lucky still. Took my first road spill in years, and it turns out to be a 15 mph gig around a wet corner in my office parking lot. No damage to me, so that's the good news. The bike, however, appears to have taken some minor to slightly-more-serious damage. _ I lowsided in a left-hand turn in the rain, with me sliding toward the curb and the bike spinning out from under me. The left mirror, stock handguard and choke adjuster are broken off. The shifter is bent but not broken. Rear blinker busted. So I'm thinking no big deal. _ Managed to get the bike righted, but had trouble getting bike into neutral. Eventually got that, too, but when I push the starter, all I get is a distinct buzzing sound. What's that all about? _ Electrics (dash lights, blinkers, headlight, taillight) seem to be working fine. So what gives? Thanks for the advice. Cheers, Erik A15 - Miami ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program.

You might want to check the starter relay. Located on the left side behind the cover. It's possible that the cable running from the relay to the starter or battery somehow managed to come loose during the fall. Many times a buzzing or clicking sound stems from a loose connection. Hope this helps and quit trying to show off in front of all those office secretaries. Ron

The engine might be hydro-locked. Basically, what happens sometimes is that the float valve in the carb gets stuck open and gas pours through the carb down the intake tract, past the valves, and into the cylinder. Over time it can seep past the rings and drain into the case, but in the near term it prevents the piston from going over TDC because the liquid is incompressible. You can't turn the engine over, in other words, and attempts to do so exert a lot of force against the piston / rings. The way to fix it, naturally, is to take out the spark plug and turn the engine over. Put a rag / paper towel into the spark plug well when you do this. Gas will squirt out and likely all will be well. However, in some cases you can have residual damage, usually in the form of bent rings, from trying to crank an engine thus locked. Good luck!
