klr stock fork "twist" solution.... try it out?

This was suggested to me by Jake of sagebrushmachine.com. He mentioned
that it significantly reduced the twisting of the front end under
braking on his '88 KLR.
If you simply fit broad, flat washers under the axle bolt head and under
the nut, then retighten the axle with the spec torque, it will make the
axle/slider assembly somewhat more rigid. It should mimic the
improvement of a fork brace to some extent, without any chance of
inducing binding like an ill-fitting brace would. Not to mention costing
under a dollar.
The washers need to be thin enough that you can still get the cotter pin
into the axle properly. Anyone want to try this out and report back? I'm
curious how many KLRs will benefit (or if Jake's '88 was extra sloppy
like my '01).

Or the washers could be extra thick, and use the fuji lock axle nuts
from Dual-Star. Then you don't need any cotter pins.

Devon believes this is a troll, Rod and some dozen others have bought
some bearings off of another site to install under the forks caps to
correct "spring twist/binding"?. Truth can be stranger than fiction,
no?

I just finished talking to Joe at Phoenix Metalworks and the run of
left-handed smoke chasers is in for anodizing now. They should ship

Yes, knowing full well at the time that it might be snake oil.
Siemen says that a carefully massaged set of race forks might include
fork spring bearings, but that any effect would be too subtle to be
noticed by the hamfisted KLR rider. Sounds about right, kind of like
homeopathy ("natrum muriaticum", indeed.) Hey, they're in there, and
you don't hear me complaining about my forks, do you?
