Well, I don't know about that type of Kenda, but I'm sure someone can
help you out.
I would be of much interest to us, and to help you with your answer,
if we knew more about your riding practices. You say that it's 90%
street, but:
How many miles a month
How agressive do you ride on the street
Do you ride in the rain, snow
Do you like scraping the pegs alot
And what about the " 10% " off roading?
Is it gravel roads only
Do you do any trial riding
Are you in the woods alot
And what is you main concern in a tire?
Do you want to get 10,000 miles out of that tire
Do you care if it is noisy
Do you want awesome traction in the 10% off roading you do
You know.......details man, details.

I would be of much interest to us, and to help you with your answer,
if we knew more about your riding practices. You say that it's 90%
street, but:
How many miles a month - I think about 600 -1200 with 900 being average
How agressive do you ride on the street - Not very. Seems like I've lost
the desire to ride agressively.
Do you ride in the rain, snow - Rain yes, snow no.
Do you like scraping the pegs alot - I have never scraped a peg and don't
intend to.
And what about the " 10% " off roading?
Is it gravel roads only - Yes, mostly just dirt/gravel fire road type
stuff. No single tack at least not now.
Do you do any trial riding - No.
Are you in the woods alot - No, unless a gravel road leads me there.
And what is you main concern in a tire?
Do you want to get 10,000 miles out of that tire - No. Using my nephews
shop and the internet, tires are cheap.
Do you care if it is noisy - Yes. I like it smoth and quiet.
Do you want awesome traction in the 10% off roading you do - Not really.
Just enough to stay upright.
You know.......details man, details.
Thanks,
Sam

Well, again I'll say that I do not know about that tire. However, I
do have a new set of Kenda 270's on my bike right now (they were
free) and I ride 95% street, and ride fast and furious. I friggin
hate these tires. I also don't remember seeing any "Kenda's" that
didn't look like "off road" tires, so I don't think that you are
really going to like those.
If all you want to do is stay upright on dirt roads that you are only
on 10% of your riding, and you ride in the rain, I would go with the
IRC GP 110'S. They are not that expensive, and they did great for
me. I swear by the Avon Gripsters, which are the stickiest tires for
the KLR that you can get, wet or dry, but they suck off road. I can
scrape the pegs with full confidence on the Avon's. The IRC GP
110's are second to the Avon's. I can lean way the hell over, just
can't quite scrape the pegs. Off road however, they are WAY better
than the gripsters. And they are quiet, except that one spot when
your leaned over about 10 degrees, they kinda howl at ya. If your
wearing ear plugs like your suppose to, you can barely hear it.

MrMoose,
Check out the Kenda K761 for 95% street use. The tread
pattern is a night and day difference from the K270
(which is a good 50/50 tire IMO). I think Zach was
using K761s and he liked them if my memory serves me
correctly. They are 1/2 the price of any other pair of
H speed rated tires in the KLRs size the last time I
checked.

Oh yea! Those, and the K657 look better than any other Kenda's that
I have seen. I guess that they would do alright for what the
original poster was looking for.
For me, the tread pattern looks too close to a Avon Gripster, so I
would just go for those again.

John,
I looked around the net for someone who stocks the K 761 and did not
find them listed anywhere. Did you purchase yours online , or from your
local motorcycle dealer.? I would like to see a picture of them as well
as compare prices to other tires. I am also looking at the Continental
TK 16 and 17 for road tires as I may be moving, and my commute will be
about 100 miles per day round trip. Any comments on the Contis or any
other high milage tires from anyone would be welcome.
Thanks to all

I got my K761s, IIRC, from swmototires.com. They had the tires in stock
although they weren't on the web page. Bridgestone TW21/22 are also a
good high-mileage combo.

If you're looking for a higher mileage, 95/5 tire you may want to
consider the Michelin Anakee. They're very popular with the V-Strom
set, and I think some of the other 'big trailies' are using them too.
I've got the Anakees on my Strom, and TKC 80's on the KLR. The
Anakee's do everything well, and are particularly good (for the
class) at wet and dry grip. They're lasting 7,000 to 9,000 miles on
Stroms, which are 120 lbs heavier, with about 94 hp. Mine are
effortless in incidental dirt or sand, but the Strom never gets
muddy.
They are, however, more money. KLR sizes are about $205/pair at
SWMotoTires. Another popular tire with the big dogs is the Metzeler
Tourance. Maybe a little less sticky, but a few more miles. The Avon
Distanzia is less sticky still, but is supposed to have even higher
mileage -- like mid teens. The new 95/5 Conti is getting no respect,
from what I read.
For me, the Anakees are keepers for great all-around 95/5 tires.

Butch,
This is from message 89000 - I posted this back in
June or July of this year:
"That is not a bad deal for a H speed rated DS tire. A
quick comparison of H speed rated tires at Dennis
Kirk:
Kenda K270 F-$ 31 R-$ 56 Set-$ 87 (for fun)
Kenda K761 F-$ 52 R-$ 58 Set-$110
Metezler Tourance F-$121 R-$144 Set-$265
Pirelli MT90 F-$111 R-$115 Set-$226
Avon Distanzia F-$ 88 R-$135 Set-$223
Michelin Anakee F-$114 R-$138 Set-$252
Dunlop 604 F-$ 92 R-$118 Set-$210
The next matched set of H speed rated tires (604's)
are $100 more. This is almost twice the price of the
Kenda K761!"
Note: I have used the Kenda K270. I have no experience
with the K761.
Dennis Kirk should carry the K761. I would bet Fred
and other suppliers can get them as well.
I was disappointed with the rear Avon Distanzia. I
could only milk out 6000 miles at 34psi before the
rear was toast.
YMMV,
