underpowered klr?

I follow the "regulars on this group with some
interest. While I may be "new" to this group I more
than 40 years past being new to motorcycles. I raced
off road for years, owned a two line dirtbike
dealership, and built many a modified race bike for
MX, flat track, and hare scrambles. Currently I have
just two bikes but they are complete opposites. My BMW
"K" series RS model has fuel injection, ABS, and is
faster than I care to ride it. I love that bike,
nothing could take its place (other than a new K1200
GT !). My last dirt bike was my Husky 250WR which I
sadly had to give up several years back.
I had to have a dual sport bike. First choice was a
KTM (Like Malcom rides!) but even with a local dealer
just 15 minutes away it was not a practical choice.
They "ain't cheap" but even worse, parts are hard to
come by and dealers are rare. Besides that, this dual
sport was really just going to be a fun putt around
bike, not a full blower racer.
One has to make decisions on many levels and with many
considerations. If you want loads of horsepower the
KLR is not the bike. If you want an off-road racer,
look somewhere else. But, if one wants a very
practical daily use, just plain fun bike the KLR is
very hard to beat.
I have had my fair share of fast bikes. When it comes
to the KLR I would tell someone to just enjoy it for
what it is. If you want to tweek it a bit, go ahead
and enjoy. I read all the comments and oppinions
flying around here about lack of power, not good in
the dirt, etc. and wonder if some have lost the point
of all of this.
I chose the KLR based on some test reports and the
info I learned from this group. Thank all of you for
your wisdom. I am more than pleased with this bike,
its just down right fun to ride. My wife and I love it
and spend more time on it than our BMW now. Oh, I will
keep the Beemer, its just too great a rush to ride and
is just in another world than the red and black
Kawasaki. But when it comes the KLR, as my wife would
say, "Just love it for what it is". Wise woman!
My $ .02
