accident: fan assembly splice?

About a week or so I go I was getting some practice on our dirt roads
in an abandoned sub division.
And on a long corner I set myself up wrong... Short version: I target
fixed a barbed wire fence. I said to myself "oh crap, I'm gonna hit
that?" And I did. It was at an angle so I glided along it for about
25 feet shredding my clothes to the garbage can.
I pulled away and the bike went over on its left side.
The cover is scratched up, one of its connecting braces is damaged.
The radiator has very minor damage, no leaks just a few crimped foils.
The fan Screen is messed up which forces the shroud out of place.
The fan assembly: the wire that goes from the fan to the fan switch
got caught in the blades and was snipped off an inch or two out of
the fan switch.
I would just go ahead and get a new fan but the bugger is about $240.
Everyone says I should just splice it. I'm not one for half-assed
repairs but I don't really see another option. I can't find the wires
separately from the fan assey.
Am I just been a prune about the whole thing, and should I just go
ahead and have someone splice the connection?

If you solder and shrink wrap it (~10 min of work), I don't see how
that'd be a "half-assed repair". If you do think it's a half assed
repair, I'd be happy to sell you my spare fan assembly for $240

Splice it. A good splice will be not come apart without an incredible
amount of force (ie. crashing the bike again). My bike has tons of
splices and the only ones that have failed are the ones that I've
half-assed (and deserved to have them fail).

The entire wiring harness is crimp-spliced. A good crimp splice is
perfectly serviceable. Use dielectric grease on the wire ends, and use a
real crimping tool (not pliers).
Soldering and shrink-wrapping is also fine.

Got my manual last week; also autographed.
Does this mean that there is going to be a glut of Kawasaki manuals on ebay?

Got mine today also...thanks Fred! Also received my Galfer front
and rear brake pads, as well as my Battery Tender +.
As reported, the Clymer manual is chock full of of clear pictures
and illustrations, written in easy to understand text. A huge
improvement over the shop manual and supplement.
These inscribed and signed copies ("Happy Wrenchin...Fred Hink") of
the Clymer KLR Manual will be a keepsake or should bring top dollar
out on EBay!!!
