klr250 opinions?

I need your opinion about a KLR250. Does anyone have experience
with Killer-lite? The 250 appeals to me because it's lighter
and has a lower seat height. Does it have good aftermarket support?
All the goodies available for the 650 is why I wanted the Kawi in the
first place.
How fast can you cruise with a 160lb rider? I'd mainly be on state
roads with 55 mph max speed limit. Also, are they reliable as the
650? Thanks in advance, any info is much appreciated.

I ride the 250 (A4), mostly on narrow steep trails and around town. To me,
the 650 appears to be too bulky, heavy for what I am doing. I occasionally
get on I-96 and have no problem flowing with the fast traffic (80 mph). Any
more bulk than the KLR250 is no good for me, I would rather prefer something
even lighter (and less front heavy).
The 250 has a wide usable rpm range (happily revs to 11000). Like the 650,
they have been building the 250 virtuall unchanged since 1985, last week at
the local dealer I looked at a 2003, no change at all that I could find.

The 250 will handle 55mph with no problem at all, above 65 and things
start feeling a bit unstable for lack of a better word, nothing serious,
but noticeable. Off road, since it's much lighter than the 650, it's
easier to handle. It is in no way a "dirt bike", just a fun machine, grin
factor "10"!!! If you plan on doing any touring, you'll be better off
with the 650. More power, room, legs, you get the picture. A very
impressive bike for the money. However, if you just want to have some fun
off road, without any problem getting off road, the 250 my be your best
bet. Hope this helps, if you have anything more specific to ask, drop me
a line.
Here is a great site for the 250......

While it's not happened to me, my understanding is that the problem is the
canister can fill with gas and you have to get the canister off, drained and
dried out.
