jc whitney cases as hard saddle bags?

Post by klr6501995 » Sun Oct 05, 2003 12:38 am

Just recieved my case from jc whitney. The detachable one. Im happy with it. What do the listers think about using two of these cases as hard saddle bags ? I've never seen the GIVI mounts so how do these mounts compare in strength? Doskocil cases may be a cheaper and stronger alternative but a solid quick release mechnism is a problem. 25mm plastic ammo boxes are cheap and very solid. just a bit small.

I thought of it when I still had my Honda CB: gave up because couldn't design a mount. Someone with better enginnering skills should have no problem. On the other hand, if I could design a mount, I'd go for surplus .50 cal ammo cans - cheaper, almost just as big and have a real lock latch. An idea to all folks running aftermarket parts businesses: how about designing/building a detachable "saddlebag" mount to which we could weld any old bucket? Cheers! xm on the klr

Has anyone put an XM system on the KLR? Can the re-charge system handle it? Mechanically, I know my way around the bike, but the whole electricity thing has me baffled from time to time. Is there a way to upgrade the system for this? i.e. Krokko's FAQ suggestion... Any help with this would be great. In conjunction with that question, are there adapters and such for vests, other accessories, or do you have to splice them in somewhere yourself? Thanks -j.
